CDM Medicare Items Audit

Medicare Australia plans to conduct an Australia-wide audit of Chronic Disease Management (CDM) care planning in early 2007 as part of its ongoing audit program.

Reference is made to the CDM items checklist posted on the Department of Health and Ageing website.  The intention of this checklist is to provide easy-to-use general guidance on the formal MBS requirements which GPs must meet when using the CDM items.

Re-emerging Syphilis Problem

Since 2002 new diagnoses of syphilis has been doubling every 6-9 months in Victoria. Syphilis increases the risk of HIV transmission and if untreated may progress to tertiary syphilis.  Melbourne Sexual Health Centre has created a web site to aid in the diagnosis of early syphilis, and thus reduce transmission there may be no symptoms of early syphilis. The website covers pictures of common syphilis presentation, treatment guidelines, fact sheet for patients, contact letters, screening guidelines for men who have sex with men.
